Kat Vaughan (BA, MBA) founded Globally Minded Works in 2007 after working around Lake Atitlan and helping the Mayan people through education and business. Kat first traveled to Guatemala in 1998, while working as an Associate Relationship Manager with Fair, Isaac. She sponsored a Mayan girl through Common Hope, and eventually moved to Antigua, Guatemala for Spanish immersion classes and volunteering at Common Hope, a child sponsorship program. In 2001, Kat launched a nonprofit internet cafe in San Pedro La Laguna, on the shores of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In 2003, Kat directed a middle school in San Marcos La Laguna, and in 2006, Kat founded a fair trade business, Globally Minded, now supporting artisans living around the lake. Globally Minded designs jewelry handcrafted by artisans in Guatemala. Globally Minded is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation.
